This year, four students from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida were chosen to study conservation and environmental issues in Takamatsu, Japan. This is a collaborative effort between Eckerd College and the Henry Luce Foundation, known as the Asian Environmental Initiative (AEI) to bring together science majors as well as students learning Asian languages and culture. By doing this the program aims to create an environment where students can learn about Asian environmental issues while also understanding the culture surrounding them. The AEI also chose two other groups of students from Eckerd College to travel and study in Indonesia and Hong Kong this year.
