ASIA ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVE 2016: JAPAN
The city of Takamatsu is located on the island of Shikoku, facing the
Seto Inland Sea. It is the capital of Kagawa prefecture, and has been
the sister city of St. Petersburg Florida for over 50 years. While there
our group took part in multiple activities and visited locations
throughout the city alongside faculty and students from
Kagawa University. We visited historical landmarks such as Ritsurin
Gardens, Takamatsu Castle, and the local shrines and temples. We
visited the local markets numerous times. Mainly because the one
located in Takamatsu is in the largest pedestrian shopping district in
all of Japan, and it was located half way between our daily commute
to Kagawa University.
Our group also took part in a meeting with the vice mayor and other
city council members at city hall to commemorate the sister city
relationship between Takamatsu and St. Petersburg.
